An opportunity to regenerate the centre of Hertford to create a vibrant hub and mix of uses that will connect the town with its river frontage
The new proposals upgrade the bus terminus, redevelop the current shopping centre whilst providing additional residential units in this attractive riverside setting.
The public realm strategy used to inform the masterplan follows urban design principles set out in the local urban design framework. This strategy provides a clear hierarchy of routes connecting the riverside with the town, facilitating community space for gathering, and animating it with a cafe and outdoor dining area.
Materials have been selected to respect the local vernacular materials of stone and clay to ensure that the development delivers the quality required by the Local Planning Authority. Street trees have been incorporated to define the central spine of the shopping area, bringing green into the heart of the development. In addition, residential units include individual outdoor landscape terraces, bringing activity and animation to the space, outside core shopping hours.
